Trusting God's wisdom is often easier to talk about than to practice. We prefer immediate answers, clear direction, and quick resolutions. Yet God's wisdom frequently requires patience, faith, and a willingness to wait for Him to work.
Ruth understood this reality. After losing her husband, she faced an uncertain future. As a widow in a foreign land, she could not see how God would provide or what her future would hold. Yet she chose faithfulness. Rather than abandoning Naomi or pursuing her own path, Ruth committed herself to God and God's people, saying, "Your people shall be my people, and your God, my God" (Ruth 1:16).
As the story unfolds, Ruth does not force outcomes or manipulate circumstances. She works diligently, follows wise counsel, and patiently waits. God, in His providence, brings Boaz into her life. What began as a season of grief and uncertainty became a story of redemption and blessing.
The lesson is not simply that God will provide a spouse for every faithful person. Rather, the lesson is that God's wisdom often unfolds over time. Ruth could not see the end of the story while she was living through the beginning of it.
Paul teaches a similar principle in 1 Corinthians 7:36-40. Whether speaking to those considering marriage or widows contemplating the future, Paul emphasizes wise decisions rooted in devotion to the Lord. Marriage is honorable. Singleness can be honorable. Widowhood is not hopeless. In every circumstance, the goal is not merely personal happiness but faithful service to God.
Trusting God's wisdom means believing that God's timing is better than our impatience and that His plans are greater than our limited perspective. It means continuing to walk faithfully even when we cannot see where the road leads.
Like Ruth, we may not understand what God is doing in the moment. But faith reminds us that the God who guides our steps sees the whole journey. Our responsibility is not to know every detail of the future. Our responsibility is to trust Him and follow faithfully wherever He leads.
