Hosea 11: When God Will Not Give Up on His Child 

“I taught Ephraim to walk, taking them by the arms… 

I bent down to feed them… 

How can I give you up? 

My heart recoils within me; my compassion grows warm and tender.” 

(Hosea 11:3, 8)

God commanded Hosea to marry a serial adulteress so Israel would see herself in the mirror: chasing lovers, selling herself for cheap wine, forgetting the One who carried her.

Yet in chapter 11, the wounded Husband becomes the heartbroken Father who cannot—will not—let go.

Even when exile is certain, He whispers, “I will not execute my burning anger… for I am God and not man, the Holy One in your midst.”

That fierce, refusing-to-let-go love finds its fullest voice on a cross, where the true Son absorbs the exile we deserved and rises to bring us home forever.

This Sunday: Feel the ache of Hosea 11 and meet the Father who runs to the prodigal.
