Nahum 1: The Overlooked Side of God’s Love 

Everyone loves “slow to anger.” 

Nahum reminds us the same verse says “the Lord is avenging and wrathful… 

He will by no means clear the guilty.”

Nineveh—the city Jonah reluctantly saved—went back to bloodshed and brutality. 

Now God declares: “I am against you.”

Chapter 1 is thunder: 

whirlwind, storm, seas dried up, mountains quaking. 

The same power that once spared Nineveh will now shatter it forever.

But tucked inside the terror is astonishing comfort: 

“The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; 

He knows those who take refuge in Him.” (1:7)

The wrath that falls on the wicked city is the same wrath Jesus drank to the dregs on the cross—so every guilty refugee who runs to Him finds the stronghold wide open.

This Sunday: Meet the God whose jealousy burns against evil and whose mercy burns hotter for sinners who hide in His Son.
