Obadiah (the whole book – just 21 verses!) 

Pride, Betrayal, and the Day Edom Falls 

“You stood aloof on the day strangers carried off Jerusalem’s wealth… 

You gloated. You looted. You cut down her fugitives. 

Do not gloat over your brother on the day of his misfortune.”

Obadiah’s single-chapter thunderbolt is aimed at Edom—descendants of Esau—who watched their blood brothers suffer and chose cruelty over compassion.

God’s verdict: 

“As you have done, it shall be done to you… 

But on Mount Zion there shall be deliverance.”

The proud who trusted their mountain strongholds will vanish. 

The humiliated remnant of Israel will rise and possess the kingdom.

And the final line that still echoes in every gospel sermon: 

“The kingdom shall be the Lord’s.”

This Sunday: Let the shortest book expose the deadliest sin (pride) and point to the only King who truly reigns.
