Joel 1: When Locusts Strip Everything Bare 

“Wake up, you drunkards, and weep! 

The fields are ruined, the ground mourns… 

Joy and gladness have been cut off from the house of God.”

A locust plague has devoured Judah—crops, vines, storehouses, hope. 

But Joel says this isn’t just a natural disaster; it’s a dress rehearsal for the great and terrible Day of the Lord.

The altar is empty. The offerings stop. 

The only thing left is to cry out: 

“Spare your people, O Lord!”

This Sunday we sit in the stripped fields with Joel and discover that every famine—then and now—is a megaphone calling us to return to the God who can turn devastation into the greatest outpouring the world has ever seen (Joel 2:28-32 fulfilled at Pentecost).
