Micah 6: God’s Lawsuit Against His People 

The mountains are called as witnesses. 

God steps into the courtroom: 

“My people, what have I done to you? 

How have I wearied you? Answer me!”

He recounts the exodus, the miracles, the love— 

then lists the charges: corrupt scales, violence, lies, idolatry.

The people panic: “Shall I come with thousands of rams? 

Will the Lord be pleased if I give my firstborn for my sin?”

Micah’s answer rings through history: 

“He has told you, O man, what is good; 

and what does the Lord require of you 

but to do justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with your God?” (6:8)

Yet we can’t. And God knew it. 

So seven centuries later, the One who perfectly did justice, loved mercy, and walked humbly came—born in Bethlehem (Micah 5:2)—to be our defense in the courtroom.
