Building God's Temple: Rewards and Warnings

Mar 8, 2026    Zachary Ford

In 1 Corinthians 3:10–23, Paul reminds the church that Christ is the only foundation.

No preacher, no tradition, no personality can replace what God has already laid in Jesus. The question is not whether we are building, but how we are building on the foundation of Christ.

Paul then makes it clear that the materials matter. Some works are like gold and silver — refined, faithful, eternal. Others are like wood and straw — impressive for a moment but unable to withstand the fire. A day is coming when the Lord will test each person’s work, and faithfulness will be evaluated.

Finally, Paul calls the church to remember, you are God’s temple. The Spirit dwells among His people, and that reality brings both comfort and warning. Because we belong to Christ, and Christ belongs to God, we must build carefully, reject worldly wisdom, and live as those who know that everything we do in Him carries eternal weight.
