Gifts Meant for The Edification of All

Sep 27, 2026  •  Mitch Davis

In this sermon, we will consider how Paul corrected the Corinthian church’s misunderstanding the purpose of spiritual gifts by bringing their focus back to love, order, and edification. The Corinthians had begun treating certain manifestations—especially tongues—as marks of greater spirituality, but Paul redirected them to the true purpose of every gift: building up the church. We will see how diversity in gifts is meant to serve unity, how love governs the use of every manifestation, and how intelligibility becomes essential when the gathered church is meant to be strengthened. Ultimately, this message reminds us that spiritual gifts are not platforms for personal experience, but tools for the good of the body, so that “all things be done for edification.
