King Jehoshaphat
This study of 2 Chronicles 18 looks closely at how easily we can get caught between trying to follow God and trying to please the world. King Jehoshaphat truly loved God and led a massive national "Bible-teaching" movement in Judah, using the Book of the Law. Yet, despite possessing and championing God's Word, he made a dangerous compromise by joining forces with the wicked King Ahab of Israel. By looking at how the writer of Chronicles tells this story, we see a realistic picture of a believer who knows Scripture but gets pulled into a worldly trap through flattery and political pressure. Ultimately, this lesson reminds us that human leaders will always fail us, pointing us instead to Jesus Christ—our perfect King and Good Shepherd who protects us and rescues us by His grace.
