Faithful Stewards: Judging Leaders

In our upcoming study of 1 Corinthians 4:1–5, "Faithful Stewards: Judging Leaders," we explore the Apostle Paul’s radical reset of how we view church leadership. Addressing a church distracted by "celebrity" status, Paul demands they "so consider us" as mere servants—a term that in the original Greek (hyperetas) literally means "under-rower." Like the hidden rowers in the hull of a great ship, leaders are not captains to be worshipped, but laborers moving in unseen rhythm to the Master’s beat. By shifting our gaze from the "uniforms" on deck to the servants in the shadows, we strip away human pride so that all can see the preeminence of Jesus Christ alone.
