Last week we looked at the history of courtship in our country and how it has lead to the stereotypical failure of today’s “dating”. So, how should our young use their time before getting married? Well, for starters, we can train our children to “prepare” for a possible marriage by having our daughters give themselves over to headship of Jesus Christ and groom our sons to behave like Christ. With this mindset put to practice, we’ll have godly princesses who will be able to prepare themselves for their (godly) prince charming.

Dating – as far as world history is concerned – is a relatively new phenomenon and has typically associated with it the dangers of temptations and double standards that do not typically lend itself to healthy relationships in preparation for biblical marriage. This lesson gives insight to the modern American history of courting that evolved into the modern dating scene.

Our modern western culture seems to have come to believe that children have minimal (if any) accountability and responsibility. Further, we have turned the teenage years into a period of extended childhood. Is that what the Bible reveals for the teenager years?

All parents desire for their children to behave. The reality is that children (like parents) live in a world of sin, where rebellion, defiance,  greed, laziness, etc. bring about strife in the parent/child relationship. This lesson focuses on what God’s word explicitly reveals about the principles pertaining to corporal punishment (i.e. spanking).

Children today are being raised with confusing and ever changing (and selfish) standards. The Bible clearly teaches our children to obey and honor their parents. Parents, you are expected to train them to learn this fundamental role in the family.

Our society – including those who profess to be Christians – continues to manifest the way of the world, but Christians committed to Jesus Christ, God’s word, and their spouses will have the opportunity to have an excellent marriage.
